June VHF 2025 Prep

We’re down to just a week until the June VHF Contest and I think I’m likely going to keep my fairly regular cadence for Roving staying in the local four grids on 9 bands from 6m to 10ghz. I still have yet to sit down with my 5ghz transverter and get that ready to go – think I’ve had that project on that back burner now for the better part of 2 years. I have a little time to get that prepped and have an antenna, but that may yet again sit until everything else is ready.

Radio as a whole has sort of been on the back burner lately so a lot of the little projects I’d like to have done have been relatively ignored, like I said in my catch up post, by the time I get home and get a workout in, get the dog for a walk, and eat dinner it’s 9pm and I don’t really feel like doing much else, so a lot of my activity has been relegated to in the car or a D-Star reflector. Working at a desk all day, I don’t really have the desire to get home and sit some more.

I have a shoot on Saturday morning fairly locally, so with any hope I can either have everything ready Friday night, or get it all ready on Saturday morning prior to that and then as soon as I’m done I can drop my shooting stuff off, grab anything battery powered that I usually let linger on the charger until the moment I leave, and head out. I’m not going to be able to take Friday off to prep like I want to, so I actually started looking through things when I should’ve been in Dayton and noticed that everything shy of coax and adapters seems to be relatively set and ready to go, at least radio wise. I mentioned that last June I’d pulled everything apart and soaked all of the mounting hardware in solvents and Diet Coke to get rid of the rust and get them cleaned up. I need to grab a few new U-Bolts, but what I need can be purchased right at the local Home Depot.

Saturday I’ll probably start off in FN12 (Run from 1400-1800), and then dip down to FN02 to end the night (1830-2200), leaving Sunday morning to start off in FN13 (0800-1230), and then work my way back west into FN03 (1400-1900). Anything after 7pm will be an audible – I don’t usually stay out much past that anymore in the contests, I see activity usually start to dip after dinner time and am usually just hearing dupes after then.
